Fall 2008 is about extremes, and that goes for the lips as well. Ranging from the darkest of darks to the barest of bares, the following lipsticks are fall's must-haves.
Keeping up with makeup trends can seem like a daunting task. However, by choosing to update a look with one or two key pieces, such as a lipstick, staying in style is easy and affordable. The following five lipsticks for fall 2008 are not only beautiful additions to any collection, they're easily worn to the office or for a night out on the town. Chanel Aqualumiere Lipstick in PapeetePapeete was released as in the Chanel Fall 2008 Colour Collection, allowing women to make a statement without looking over-the-top. Though the formula is sheer and hydrating, the color shines through with more impact than a gloss but less than a matte or cream. This lipstick also features an SPF of 15, and retails for $27 at fine department stores or through the company's website. MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Pretty PleaseRelaunched as part of the "Modern Armor" fall 2008 collection by MAC Cosmetics, Pretty Please is a lustre formula that offers the slightest hint of color possible. It is so slight, it is almost like wearing nothing at all. This pearly pink shade compliments virutally any skin ton from fair to medium, but appears ghostly and ashy on darker tones. Retailing at just $14 via the company website or at department stores, this lipstick is an affordable addition to any makeup collection. NARS Lipstick in FlamencoFlamenco, a candy-apple red appears as if it would be thick and dark on the lip, but the sheer formula provides a boost to natural lip color without looking overdone or too dark. This is the perfect shade for someone who is looking to experiment with more color on their lips, but worries they may not be able to pull it off. It's the perfect amount of color married with the perfect amount of shine. The lipstick can be found at many retailers nationwide, including Sephora, or via the company's website. It currently retails for $24. Stila Cosmetics Lipstick in Rock The Vote RedRed lips are a big deal for fall 2008, and Stila does not disappoint with Rock The Vote Red. This limited edition red lipstick was launched to commemorate the 2008 election in the United States, and a percentage of the sales of this shade of lipstick will be donated to Rock The Vote, an organization dedicated to increasing voter registration and awareness. This lipstick is creamy, soft, and suitable for many skin tones, including even the most fair. Those with with warmer skin tones may not find it ideal, but would be able to alter the color with the simple addition of a warm-toned lip liner. Smashbox Lip Brilliance Three Color Lip PaletteThe only thing better than having one lip color for fall 2008 is having three. And Smashbox has the perfect palette for any purse. Comprised of one light, one medium, and one darker lip color, these creamy lip colors wear well for the day, and require a touch up with a darker shade for evening. This mirrored compact retails for only $28, and the texture of the lip color is that of a creamy lipstick, but with a shiny finish, such as a gloss. Suitable for every skin tone, especially when factoring in the fact that these three colors can be mixed and matched to create a custom shade. Choosing Your Lipstick For Fall 2008When choosing a lipstick shade for fall 2008, consider the rest of the makeup look so that the overall look doesn't end up over done. When pairing a lipstick with a smokey eye, opt for a lighter shade such as MAC's Pretty Please. When showing off flawless skin or a more neutral look, choose a deeper shade with a rich tone and texture.
